Getting Started with SOS Collab

Before users can access and use SourceOffSite Collaborative Edition, the SOS Collab Admin must define projects, users and groups, assign users to groups, and set up the Bug Tracking database.

The First Time You Log in to SOS Collab

If you are using the Windows Client, log in with the username Admin and the password you configured for the SOS Collab Admin account during the server installation.

Use the default non-secure port, 16436 or the default secure port, 16434, unless you configured different ports during installation or by using the SOS Collab Server Manager. You do not need to use the Web Server Override option unless the SOS Collab Web Server is installed on a different machine than the SOS Primary Server.

(Please Note: If you forget the Admin password, you will not be able to access SOS Collab. For information about resetting the Admin password, see the Support FAQ on the SourceGear website.)

Quick-start guide to setting up an SOS Collab system

Follow these steps in sequence to get started with the minimum configuration for an SOS Collab system:

  1. Create at least one project*. [Set Up a Project]
  2. Add one or more users to the System. [Set Up Users]
  3. When you created a project, SOS Collab created two groups: Developers and Project Admins. Add users to the project's Developers Group. This group, by default, has read/write access to the project. [Set up Groups]
  4. Use SOS Collab's default values for the Bug Database. [Define Bug Database Fields]
  5. Set up category names for Bug Tracking. [Define Project Categories]
  6. Set one or more milestones for your project. [Set Up Project Milestones]
  7. Configure one or more Visual Source Safe Databases and associate them with your project. [Assign Project Source Code Repositories]

*An SOS Collab project is defined as a logical collection of information, including users, functions, source code, etc. for a distinct software (or other) project. This is different from an SOS 3.5.1 or VSS project, where the term "project" describes a node or directory in a tree structure.

For complete information about SOS Collab System set up and configuration see SOS Collab Set Up Steps.
