Check Out

The Check Out command enables users to edit specific files locally. This command locks files or projects within the database. Once files are checked out, the user who has the files locked is displayed in the User column of the File List. Files retrieved during the Check Out operation are copied locally into the current working folder. A global option may be set to Never Replace Local Copy During Checkout under Tools->Options->Command Dialogs.

To perform a Check Out on one or more files, highlight the files in the File List. Then, click the Check Out button or select the Check Out command from either the Source menu or by right-clicking.

Checking Out All Files in a SCC Project

• To perform a Check Out on all files in a SCC project, highlight the SCC project. Then, select the Check Out button or choose the Check Out command from either the Source menu or by right-clicking.
• A Check Out dialog will be displayed containing different check out options which include Recursive and Do Not Overwrite Local Copy During Checkout. This dialog can be disabled from Tools->Options-> SCC Settings-> Command Dialogs. If the Recursive option is selected, all of the files in subprojects will also be checked out.
• Files retrieved during the Check Out operation are copied locally into the current working directory unless the Never Replace Local Copy option is selected.

Checking out multiple files

• SOS Collab supports multiple file check out if it has been enabled for the SourceSafe database and will attempt an automatic merge during the Check In operation.
• SOS Collab provides a 2-way merge utility, Beyond Compare. SOS Collab only supports 2-way merge.

Checking out one file to multiple locations

• SOS Collab supports multiple checkouts to the same user, but to different directories or drives if multiple checkout has been enabled in the SourceSafe Admin utility.
