To take advantage of the new features and bug fixes in the Version 4.0 release, both the SourceOffSite Client and the SourceOffSite Server must be upgraded.
Due to changes in the underlying technology of the product and installer, SourceOffSite 4.0 will not upgrade a 3.5.X installation. However, it is possible to install the SOS 4.0 Server on the same machine as 3.5.X. The 4.0 server can be configured to use the same VSS database as your 3.5.X server. 3.5.X serial numbers are not compatible with 4.0. To use the 4.0 Server, you will need to upgrade your existing serial numbers.
