To access the system-wide groups page, click the Groups link from the Administrator menu sidebar.
The Groups page lists all the groups in Dragnet. Groups help define access to project data for a set of users such as managers, development team members, QA, or marketing members, etc.
There are two types of groups, system-wide groups and project groups. A system-wide group can access to more than one project. For example, you may want to create a QA group that will access multiple projects. Project groups are specific to a particular project. Both sytem-wide and project groups can be managed from the System Group page.
The Admin or a member of the Admin group can add, modify or delete system-wide groups. Additionally, Project Admins may add, modify, or delete groups for specific projects from the Project Admin pages.
When a Project is created, two groups are automatically created for that project: a Project Admin group and a Developers group. By default, the Project Admin group has Read/Modify/Administer rights and the Development group has Read/Modify rights to the project. Any number of other groups can be created and associated with a project in addition to the defaults.
The Groups table contains the following columns:
▪ Group – Lists the name of the group.
▪ Project – Name of the project that the group belongs to. If the group is system wide “All Projects” will be displayed in this column.
▪ Description – A description for the corresponding group.
▪ Modify – Click the Modify icon to go to the Modify Group page.
▪ Delete – Click the Delete to delete the group.
To add a group to Dragnet, click the Add button from the Groups page.
To add a system-wide group select “All Projects” from the Project drops down list. To add a group to a specific project select a project from the drop down list. Only active projects will appear in the Project drop down list. Enter the group name, description and optionally assign users to the group (see below) then hit submit. Group names can not contain ‘<’ or ‘>’.
Assign Users to a Group
The Assign Users to Groups contains two list boxes. The left list box contains a list of all the active users in Dragnet who do not belong to the group. The Assigned list box on the right lists all of the users who are assigned to the group. The user names are in alphabetical order.
▪ Click the > button to assign the selected user or users to the group.
▪ Click the >> button to assign all the users to the group.
▪ Click the << button to remove all the users from the group.
▪ Click the < button to remove the selected user or users from the group.
By default the newly added group will not have access rights to any projects. Project permissions can be configured for the group from a project’s Security (link to security page) page.
The modify group page can be accessed by clicking the Modify icon associated with the group from the Groups page. The Modify Group page allows you to change the group name, description and users_D2HLink_11447.
To delete a group go to the Groups page and click the Delete icon associated with the group you want to delete. You will be asked to confirm the deletion. Deleting a group will remove the group and all security information associated with the group. This can not be undone.
