The Security page is available to System Admins and Project Admins. To access the Security page, click the Security link from the Project Admin menu sidebar.

Security can be assigned on a per user basis or to project and system groups.

Levels of Access

The existence of a listed user security right takes precedence over a group right to which that user may belong. For example, if a user is part of a group that does not have access, but the user is explicitly added to have access, then that user will have access.

If a user belongs to multiple groups with conflicting security, that user will given the most inclusive security right for any given piece of data (e.g. if the user belongs to a group with read-only access and the Project Admin Group, they are given admin permissions).

Read

Users with Read permission can view a items in a project such as Bugs, Features, Descriptions and Tasks but cannot modify them.

Modify

Users with Modify permission can modify, add and update items in a project.

Administer

Users with Administer permission have Read and Modify permission to the items in a project along with the ability to configure project categories, milestones, groups, and security.

Any user with Administer permission is considered a Project Admin – not just those who are part of the Project Admin Group.

Assign User and Group Permissions

The security page has a section for each permission type – Read, Modify and Administer. Each permission type is further divided into User lists and Group lists.

For both users and groups there are three list boxes, the Allow list, the Unassigned List and the Deny list. The Unassigned list contains a list of users or groups that have not explicitly been assigned that permission type.

For each permission type, use the arrow buttons >, <, >>, << to move users and groups from the Unassigned List to the Allow or Deny list and visa versa then click Submit at the bottom of the page.

Default Security Settings

When a Dragnet Project is created, an Admin and Developers group is created for that project. By default the Admin Group has Read/Modify/Administer permission to the project and the Developer group has Read/Modify permission to the project. If you add a user to one of these groups, they will inherit security rights from the group.
