Vault Professional users can track the actual time it takes to complete a work item. You can set a Time Estimate and then log the time spent, which will automatically calculate the Remaining Estimate on a work item.
When a new work item is added, you can enter an estimate in the Time Estimate field. This must be a whole integer rather than fractional units. Time increments must be in either minutes, hours, days or weeks. For example, instead of 1 1/2 hours, use 90 minutes.
You can also enter a date (dd-mmm-yyyy) in the Due Date field (optional.)
To log each period of time actually spent working on an item, you can create a Time Log Entry. To update the time log, click on the Time Tracking tab in the tabbed section at the bottom of the work item window, next to Comments and Attachments.
Click Add Time Log Entry to enter details about the work.
User: From the dropdown, select the user who is doing work on the work item.
Date: The date the time log is started.
Duration: The length of time work was done. Time increments must be in either minutes, hours, days or weeks. This must be in whole, rather than fractional units. For example, instead of 1 1/2 hours, use 90 minutes.
Type: From the dropdown, select Billable or Non-Billable.
Comment: You can add a comment about the Time Log Entry.
Submit: Click the OK button to save your changes.
Note: Only the user who created the Time Log Entry can delete or edit the entry.
To edit a Time Log Entry, click the Edit pencil. The "Add Time Log Entry" now becomes "Edit Time Log Entry." Make changes to the time log entry and click Submit.
To delete a Time Log Entry, click the red Delete "X" to the right of the entry.
