Loading the Integrated Fortress Item Tracking Client

Once you’ve started Visual Studio 2005 or 2008, load the Fortress Item Tracking Tool Window view by clicking View->Other Windows->Fortress. The Fortress Tool Window consists of the Fortress Item Tracking tree.

In Eclipse, open the Fortress Bug Tracking View by clicking Window->Show View->Other…, then selecting Fortress->Fortress Bug Tracking in the Show View dialog.

Connecting to Fortress

You can connect to Fortress by loading the Fortress Item Tracking Window from the View->Other Windows->Fortress menu or by clicking the Connect to Fortress toolbar button on the Fortress toolbar. Alternatively, if the Fortress Tool Window is already open, you can connect by clicking Connect to Fortress from the Fortress Node in the Item tracking tree.

When you first load the Fortress Item Tracking Window you are prompted to login.  Enter your login name, password, and the Fortress server name in the Connect to Server dialog. Note that the server name is the name of the server, not the Server’s URL.  For example, if your server is located at: http://server.domain.com or https://server.domain.com, a valid server name would be “server” (if you are on the same LAN as the Fortress server) or “server.domain.com”. Check the Use SSL checkbox if you are using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for security.

The profiles you set up in the Fortress GUI client also are available when connecting to Issue Tracking. See the Fortress GUI Client help for more details on setting up and using Fortress Profiles.

In Eclipse, whenever the Fortress Bug Tracking View is first loaded (either on startup if it is visible from a previous session or if you have opened it from the Window menu) you will be prompted to login.  If you have cancelled the login process for some reason and wish to login later, simply open the Fortress Bug Tracking View and click the Login to Fortress button in the toolbar of the view.

Disconnecting from Fortress

You are automatically disconnected from Fortress when you close Visual Studio. You also can disconnect by:

  1. Clicking the Disconnect button from the Fortress toolbar

  2. Clicking the Disconnect context menu on the Fortress Item tracking tree.

If you are connected to the Source Code Control client, you will be asked  to close any open solutions before you can disconnect from Fortress.

You are automatically disconnected from Fortress when you close Eclipse.  This is the only way to disconnect at this time.
