Start the SOS Collab Servers
Both SOS Collab Servers run as a service. The services for the SOS Collab Servers will be listed in the Services Control Panel. The Server Services are automatically started by the Setup program after server installation.
To configure the Server services:
NT
From Start Menu > Settings > Control Panel, select Services. Select SOS Collab Primary Server or SOS Collab Web Server, and then click the Startup button.Windows 2000
From Start Menu > Settings > Control Panel, select Administrative Tools, and then Services. Right-click on either SOS Collab Primary Server or SOS Collab Web Server, and then select Properties.Windows XP
From Start Menu > Control Panel, select Administrative Tools, and then Services. Right-click on either SOS Collab Primary Server or SOS Collab Web Server, and then select Properties.
We recommend configuring the following:
Set the Startup Type option
We suggest setting this to Automatic.Review the Log On As option
This sets the user name under which the SOS Collab Server services will execute. The logon option was configured during the SOS Collab Servers installation. For the Primary Server
If the VSS database is located on a different drive or machine, we recommend that the account of the Primary Server service use an NT domain account. Examine the Log On As option and make sure it is set to a valid network user name. For example: domainname\username. By default, the Primary Server service runs as a system account which may not have access to the VSS installation on another machine or drive.(Please Note: When the Primary Server service is run as a user and VSS is set to automatically log on users using their network names, users will be able to log on to the VSS database using that user's ID without entering a password. There are two ways to avoid this:
- Run the service as a user that does not have a corresponding VSS log on
- Turn off the Automatic Log On option under the VSS Administrator options)
For the Web Server
The Web Server can run as a system account.
After the Server services are configured, start the services.
