If you would like to allow external users to submit items for a particular project, enable the Allow External Submissions options from Modify Project page.
When this option is enabled, each project’s item tracking section will include an External Add page. If you provide users with the URL for the external Add Item page, users not in the Fortress system can use the form add items to Fortress.
If Enable Public Items is turned on for the project you can control the externally added item's access type by adding the external-user to a public only access group. If "external-user" is a member of a public only access group all items added by external users will have an access type of "public". If the "external-user" is not a member of a public only access group or if Enable Public Items is turned off for the project all items added will be "private". Note that adding the external user to a group will not give external users any login privileges to Fortress; this will just control the access type of the added item.
The external Add Item form includes a subset of fields available on the Fortress Add Item form including:
• Type
• Description
• Details
• Category
• Version
• Platform
• Attachment
• Attachment Description
• Custom 1 and Custom 2 fields (Optional)
When a user not in the Fortress system adds an item, “external-user” will be entered for the reporter value. Note that the username for this user can be configured from the Modify User page.
If you want the Custom 1 or Custom 2 fields to be displayed on the external page this can be configured from the Database Options page.
